Here we have Peter Dawson Special a 1970s blended Scotch. Peter Dawson’s name lives on as a wonderful old blend, despite the brand dating back to the turn of the 19th century. Back in 1890 it was advertising itself as a ‘real old whisky of historic lineage and world-wide popularity’. Dawson very cleverly claimed he was ‘working in the cause of temperance,’ arguing that it was young, poorly-made spirit that did the damage and his spirit was none of those!
He owned the small Perthshire farm distillery of Auchnagie, just south of Pitlochry. Later he became part of the consortium behind Convalmore distillery in Dufftown, and in 1896 he also built the Towiemore distillery.
