An explosion of peat in a bottle from Douglas Laing. This is from their regional vatted malt series – and where else could this full bodied blended peated malt come from – from Islay of course. It comprises of malts from Coal Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. Big Peat is a wonderful whisky with lots of peaty character at an excellent price. It’s so good that it picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards 2010.
- Tasting Notes
Nose: Warming newly cut peat bricks, coffee beans, chocolate, spices and nuts.
Palate: For all its full bodied peatiness it is as smooth as a babies bottom! Hints of sweetness, nuttiness and lots of spice.
Finish: Very smooth and quick with fresh salty coastal notes lingering in the background.
